Tonight a Givealittle crowdfunding page went live for my best friend, Manda. She has had a precious baby boy, but he arrived very early (26 weeks). As there is no room for him in the NICU at home, Manda had to head off to another city, away from family, her husband and her other little baby to have a c-section.

The response from our dear friends was overwhelming.

This warmed my heart for reasons that are not about the money itself. It was the showing of love and community. There are lots of people on the Givealittle site in terrible and needy situations, but Manda’s own virtual village was rallying around her to help raise a new and vulnerable baby.

We are living in a world that is becoming more and more politically frightening. There are individuals in power who seem irrational and careless. It is no longer inconceivable that people on this planet may lose some of their basic human rights – along with their right to affordable medical care. Many have never known these rights. We see a lot of the bad and the greedy in the media, because it makes for better reading. But there are also people in this world whose generous spirit is beyond belief. For this reason, although the road ahead is uncertain for our world, one thing is sure – people will always take care of one another in times of need. Today taught me that this world is still good.

Much love, Katie x
