A while back I emailed Isaac of Isaac Likes, after learning that he was a Christchurch boy now living the dream in New York as a full-time blogger. It is strange and exciting finding out that there is someone from your home-town, out there doing exactly what you hope to do with your own future. Even living in the same place you have always dreamed of living. It still gives me comfort in the moments when I think I may end up “that girl who used to put herself out there on the internet for a while”.
I received a message a month or so later informing me he was on home soil and offering to meet up for coffee and blog chats. My first thought was that of complete nerdy excitement at meeting someone who’s writing and style I love. My second thought was – what do I wear?
Most times in my life when I have met a man for coffee, I have settled on my standard daily attire. Jeans, heels, t-shirt. Knowing full-well that he will have no idea or interest for ‘who’ I am wearing. But coffee with a fashion writer is a little different.
I settled on jeans, heels, and a t-shirt…but added a blazer.
Isaac is the sort of person who you want to constantly ask questions of, just to hear his opinion – because you know it will be honest and interesting. I’m obviously not the only one who feels this way, as he receives new emails every day, asking for advice which he then publishes in his ‘Good Question’ blog posts. Although I love the fashion, these are by far my favourite posts. I’m a sucker for any good writing around love and life (if you hadn’t noticed from my own blog), especially from a man’s perspective.
I only got to spend limited time with Mr Isaac Likes, but during our couple of hang-outs, I felt as though I had known him much longer – it’s a Christchurch thing – and a blogger thing – whist sipping my coffee and enjoying my strawberry tart, he informs me “we are all a little weird”.
Here are a couple of my favourite posts from Isaac’s blog. Make a cup of tea, snuggle into your duvet and enjoy.
See you all next year!
Much love XX
