Psychologists say that each of us have an inner child. A child who is constantly demanding to have their unmet needs fulfilled. Whilst walking through the mall the other day I experienced this child firsthand. I was heading down to the sushi shop to get lunch when I noticed Santa sitting on his seat awaiting good boys and girls to come over for a lollypop and a chat.

The Santa at Merivale isn’t your quintessential jolly man. He’s skinny and wears the boot covers – but he has a nice beard. I appreciate a nice beard.

As I approached him, a little voice inside my head said ‘get on his knee!’ – which is strange, because I remember finding the whole ordeal quite undesirable as a child. I was so paranoid that he could see right through me and felt compelled to confess a year worth of sins rather than ask for a pony.

“Have you been a good girl this year Katie?”

“Mum said I couldn’t have the chocolate fish at the supermarket so I hid it down my underpants.”

Cue blank stare.

But there is obviously some part of me that likes the idea of sitting on a man’s lap and giving him a list of all the things I want – strangely I am unmarried….

I refrained from getting on Santa’s knee – just. But had I done so, the conversation would have gone like this…

Hey Santa,

Yes, I have been a very good girl this year. Except last Saturday night, but I had been drinking tequila so that hardly counts. Oh and when I was on an elimination diet for food allergies, I was sneaking Smarties. But that doesn’t count either – Smarties are a box of joy. So effectively smarties make me a nicer person. And sometimes I head out the door and tell everyone I am going for a run and then I either walk or go for coffee. I hate running. I just like the running clothes. There have been a few other minor indiscretions Santa, but I don’t want to make you blush, so let’s leave it there. If you could please bring me a Mecca perfume, a Chloe bag and pay off my Stolen Girlfriends leather jacket that is on layby, I would be very grateful.

Merry Xmas everyone! I hope you enjoyed the most festive top I could find at work to model for you on this windy Christchurch day. Be safe and above all else, happy.

Top – Kimberleys   Coated Jeans – Country Road   Shoes – Mi Piaci   Bag – Kmart (best $20 I ever did spend)

Much love xx
