When I first started this blog there was no ‘about’ blurb. I didn’t exactly know what to tell you, or where the site was going. I had a few ideas, but mostly I just wanted to wear pretty clothes and write about it. However, now that the site is gaining traction, I guess it’s time to give new visitors a little more information under the ‘about’ tab.
I first discovered style blogs about eight years ago. I would pour over those images and save them to special folders on my computer desktop. I can make even the coolest of things nerdy. As New Zealand can be conservative in parts, those blogs were my escape to the streets of the world. Girls of New York, Milan, Paris – all just doing their thing and being fabulous.
I have kind of been obsessed ever since….
Not with fashion per se, but with how the outfit made the girl – or the girl made the outfit. Directionality aside, it was magic. It was a tangible expression of her personality – who she wanted to be. Regardless of label, price, or trend, clothes are a look inside. True style is intimate.
I’ve never been the cool girl with the ‘It’ bag; instead I am the thinker, the dreamer and the academic. From a young age Dad nicknamed me ‘the observer’. Always watching and studying the world and filing it away within for later consideration.
But for me, personal style has always held a power and a freedom.
My other freedom is writing. I would describe it like puzzle pieces of a story or a situation moving around in my head. The only way to organise them and get them to form a picture, is by putting them all down on paper.
So on this site, sometimes you will see the label or the trend and sometimes not – sometimes it will just be clothes I love and words that make sense to me.
Studying a PhD in neuroscience and becoming a fashion blogger may seem like an odd mix. However, it was Oscar Wilde who said, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated”. So I think I’m just covering my bases.
Much love x
