LIKE THE SEA

I once dated a romantic who used to tell me my eyes shifted colours like the sea. When I was passionately debating the best toast spread (peanut butter), they flared grey; when I cried during Extreme Makeover Home Edition, they were turquoise and when he delivered me my morning coffee, they glittered Spanish blue. We lay on the grass of his backyard, staring at the sky and talking about all the books we would read and the places we would go. Those were very deep and vaguely hipster times….

Sadly, our connection was only ever meant to be one of word affection and a yearning we could never put our finger on – but when I look at these pictures I am reminded of those days.

This dress looks like the sea floor. I imagine all the times I have bobbed on the surface of the ocean, peering down at the beauty below me, listening to the loud breathing in my snorkel and praying to god I don’t get taken by a shark.

Warning, fashion cliche comin’ – it’s so versatile, dress it up, dress it down! This is my go-to when heading out to a party, but I also team it with flats and my fedora for day. Everybody needs a dress that reminds them of the ocean and also conjures a lovely dose of nostalgia.
