I was having coffee with a friend the other day and as both he and I are starting businesses, the topic turned to taking risks. At the time I had to think hard about my opinion on the matter. So I thought I would share my discussion with you today – along with my favourite pastel maxi dress.
I don’t have any sound clichés or fist-pump worthy words of inspiration. I can only tell you what has helped me to take more risks in my life.
My view on risk changed only when my view on mistakes changed. I have always been someone who was terrified of making a mistake – because I was guilty of a whole lot of beating up on myself when I got it wrong.
But this worry kept me in a quiet space of immobility. A lack of mistakes leads to a very stunted life. If you have never experienced a monumental f**k up that has forced you face to face with your own ego, then you have not yet experienced true growth.
So my opinion on the matter was this. Forget about the risk for now. Focus on seeking the value and education in all of your mistakes. When you do this, risk becomes an illusion and a win-win. Either you succeed, or you get smarter. And these are two of my very favourite things.
I always remember that nothing that is meant for me can miss me. This helps me to see that some of my irreversible mistakes, happened for a reason. It fosters a little self-forgiveness.
On a more stylish note, what’s not a risk, is a plunging neckline on a small bust this summer. There has to be a benefit to a chest that is barely there and it is this…getting to wear low-cut maxi’s without looking like a street-walker or causing a fender bender.
Have a great week.
Much love xx
